While I have a great appreciation for trends and new fashion, there’s something special and nostalgic about heirlooms and traditions, especially when it comes to weddings. This shoot was all about combining the contrasting elements of modern and traditional for refreshing twist.
With the main focus of mixing modern and traditional elements in mind, we knew we needed a classic venue. Water Works, a Philadelphia landmark could not have been more fitting. The neoclassical design and modern updates were the perfect back drop.
We rounded up a stellar group of vendors including and made a magical shoot!

We knew we wanted a classic wedding dress that really had the “wow” factor, and boy did we find it! This Anna Maier dress made of Duchess Satin with a detachable billowy train from Van Cleve was the perfect fit. It’s simple, elegant and truly stunning.
The jewelry was imperative for bringing the look together and L. Priori Jewelry had everything we needed. On her ring finger, the bride wore a classic solitaire “heirloom” diamond with two modern contoured V shaped wedding bands. On her right hand, she wore family jewels that would have been passed down from generation to generation. Her large pearl earrings finished the refreshing look.
We opted for a birdcage veil as it felt clean and vintage. The bride’s hair was sleek and smooth. Her side part and low bun is truly a timeless look. Coupled with fresh natural makeup and a coral lip by ONLO.
To contrast the traditional “all white” wedding look, we finished the look with a floral printed shoe from BHLDN.
Originally, we envisioned contrasting printed bridesmaids dresses that were really bright, bold and fashionable. But when we saw these beauties at Van Cleve, we had to have them! The light blue color is bridal in a vibrant, updated way. And the silhouettes are just SO cool and unlike anything you see for a bridesmaid. A pantsuit, geometric texture and billowy sleeves are the recipe for a seriously stunning bridal party.
The bridesmaids hair and makeup was also sleek and smooth but also very modern by ONLO.
For this classic wedding, we knew we wanted a traditional tux for our groom, and Common Wealth Proper is the place to go for modern suiting.
Water Works operated by (Cescaphe Event Group) is a National Historic Landmark and one of Philadelphia’s most iconic destinations. With views of Boat House Row and the Center City skyline from its waterfront location at the foot of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the venue speak for itself. Wedding planner, Laurel & Elm and florist, Cottage Flowers added bright pops of color and details to highlight the venues natural beauty.
