Wardrobe Essential : The LBD

The LBD (little black dress) gets a ton of attention in the fashion world, and rightfully so. A good LBD is extremely versatile and should mold to fit the season, your mood and any occasion. It should be simple enough to wear with your “old faithful” black heels and fancy enough to wear with your killer new earrings (like these from L. Priori Jewelry). Add a coat of red lipstick and you should feel like the queen of the cocktail party.

I typically preach that you shouldn’t buy a piece unless you have an outfit or an occasion in mind; you end up wasting money and when an occasion comes around, you want something new anyway. But, if you find a LBD for $69.90 (like this one from Zara), go ahead and treat yo’ self! One LBD is a wardrobe staple but It’s nice to have 2 or 3 options. Here are my faves….

Classic

This is your wedding or funeral dress. You can dress it up with heels and statement jewelry, or wear it to an interview with a blazer or cardigan. I love a classic sheath or A-Line silhouette. The shape is simple and it lands at your natural waist, giving you the option to accessorize with a belt. Go for the sleeve coverage you feel most comfortable with.

Comfortable

Let’s be honest, sometimes, comfort is EVERYTHING. We all have those days when being in public feels impossible and getting dressed is out of the question. Well let me tell you, those days are a lot easier if you are prepared with a comfy, cute (and forgiving!!) LBD. I’m a huge fan of stretchy fabrics that move with you. Can I get an amen?! Look for knits like, ponte, and elastic. A wrap dress is super comfortable and forgiving on most body types.

Fun

Last, by not least, a fun and flirty LBD is one of my faves! It’s a show stopper on it’s own, but you can still change up the look with accessories and wear it to two events in one season. Right now, I’m loving EVERYTHING off the shoulder, one shoulder, spaghetti strap (yes, it’s back!) and high neck. Here’s one of my favorites this season. SHOP this dress HERE!
